As Virgil guides Dante through the 8th circle of Hell, he shows the young poet a gruesome scene — two damned souls showing off the splendor of their bodies, but using those same bodies to tear savagely at one another.

It’s a portrait of what it means to be in Hell: to take all the incredible abilities that make us human, and use them to make others and ourselves suffer.

The painting serves as a reminder, not just to lean on good guides to help you navigate life’s pitfalls, but to learn from the misery of Hell — oftentimes the worst suffering comes when you (mis)use your gifts and employ your talents to unbefitting ends. Sooner or later, it all comes back to bite you.

For this reason, you might see two shipping costs at check-out: one for coffee (shipped from our roastery) and one for art prints.
